Facebook Zero on Android

I’ve been asked by some people on how to access facebook for free on their android mobile phone in the Philippines. Well, you can do this if you have a Sun cellular sim card, using a service called facebook zero.

I did this on my Cherry Mobile Nova, but basically all android phones have similar settings screen.

Facebook Zero is a service by Sun Cellular offered to its subscribers to access the popular social networking site for free (by now). Let us see how to configure this currently free service for android devices.

We need to make sure that the Sun wap APN is configured on the Settings->Wireless & Networks->Mobile network Settings->Access Point Names as shown below:

If its not created yet, let us create a new APN called “Sun GPRS” (screenshot below shows the important settings used for this wap service):

Select this APN for use and on the previous screen, enable Data:

This will let android connect to the wap service. Let us now open the default android browser and type in “0.facebook.com”:

If successful, you will now connect through the browser (through wap) to facebook for FREE. Happy surfing!

CM Flare Users (Karbonn A9+)
The default browser of CM Flare (Opera Mini) doesn’t like Facebook zero. If you want facebook zero working, install the Dolphin Browser App from Google Play. Screenshot of CM Flare running Facebook Zero in Dolphin shown below:

I just want to ask, my android doesn’t have the “DATA ENABLED” under the “Mobile Network Settings.” What will I do? I still can’t access facebook zero. thanks..

    Hi Janieve,

You have to add the Sun GPRS APN in the APN section. Also, I don’t get it why you don’t have “DATA ENABLED” under the Mobile Network Settings of your android phone – this section is standard and available in the roms I’ve tried up to Gingerbread.

    i try it..
    but it not works..
    please help me

    Works on my end kartika:

Mobile Network Settings -> Access Point Names -> New APN:

    Name: Sun GPRS
    APN: wap
    Proxy: 202.138.159.78
    Port 8080
    Username: not set
    Password: not set
    Server: not set
    MMSC: not set
    MMS Proxy: not set
    MCC: 515
    MNC: 05
    Authentication type: PAP or CHAP
    APN type: default

And select Sun GPRS as the selected APN. Enable data connection, and you’re all set.

  5. this might be a silly question so forgive me as I am an android newbie.

I notice android has a lot of background apps, widget, and processes (syncs) that are sometimes unknown to me that is why I always disable “mobile data” because of data automatic charges.

Now, when I turn on “mobile data” on SUN’s WAP to access FBZero, do I risk getting unknown charges due to the nature of “always online” android?

will it gonna work on iphone 3Gs?

  7. clintcan on said:

    @NT:
make sure your data roaming is turned off (auto syncing is turned off), notifications on 3rd party apps such as facebook, twitter, foursquare, etc are set to off… that way, you’ll not get any surcharges when you turn the facebook 0 sun service on.

it should, the sun cellular facebook zero is standard gprs settings.

  9. im using samsung i9000…i followed the steps but im sad after seeing still can’t access it… :(

    @Mark

That’s really odd, because facebook zero works for me here. I’ve been asked by some people too, because it doesn’t work for them, and then when they changed sim, it works already. I got these settings from a friend of mine who went to Sun and asked for the GPRS settings for his nova (they set it up for him).

Please install Dolphin Browser from Google play or just use Browser App (not Opera Mini). Sun SIM should be enabled on SIM 1 (and Data enabled on SIM 1 as well). Screenshot shown in the post above using Dolphin Browser.
